Young Captain was Nederland was founded in 2005 with the cooperation of the Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate and has continued to be assured of its active involvement within this department to this day.

When it was founded, the initiators at the time had a platform in mind that was supported by the top of the Dutch business community and the government. And it had to involve real talent. Young people with ambition, people who passionately strive for innovation. People who were charged with strong business responsibilities early in their careers and are driven to make a real difference. After all, they set the tone for the future.

Although the Netherlands was doing well economically at the time of its founding, the concept of the administrative 'old-boys network' gave way to corporate governance and transparency, concepts that would only gain importance later during the financial and economic crisis. A second movement of that time was marked by the merger of national iconic companies with foreign companies. As a result, Dutch entrepreneurship became a 'hot topic' and is still the case today.

These and other developments, such as those in the areas of climate, geopolitics, energy transition, and digitalization/artificial intelligence, have since continued to play into the hands of the initiative to encourage young, innovative leaders from the Netherlands with the courage to profile themselves and support them on their way to the top of companies and organizations at home and abroad.

In this way, Young Captain Nederland retains its relevance and has grown into a prestigious annual initiative and has become a journey of extraordinary personal and leadership development for those who participate.
